Macrorie was first settled in 1903 and became an incorporated village on February 8, 1912. It lies in the Rural Municipality of Fertile Valley No. 285, in the southwest-central part of Saskatchewan's Census Division No. 12.
Today the village is small, but it still has a Co-op gas and grocery store serving the area. Danielson Provincial Park is about 20 kilometres southeast along Highway 44.
Macrorie is also the name linked to Howard Fredeen (1921–2021), an animal breeding researcher.
